People have been making good use of marijuana and hemp plants for millennia, using it to treat conditions ranging from arthritis to psoriasis – some research even suggests that the compounds within the plants, like THC and CBD, are able to help individuals cope with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. However, medical potential aside, recent findings appear to show that weed may be the next big thing in terms of spicing things up in the bedroom. Let’s take a closer look at how acts as an organic aphrodisiac:

The Research

Studies that were carried out at the University of Texas in the US have discovered several interesting things about the effect THC can have on the body. The researchers examined mice first, dosing them with differing levels of THC. It was found that the mice who had been given smaller doses experienced an increase in testosterone production, whilst the levels of those who had been given a larger amount of THC actually started to decline around 20 minutes after consumption.

Good News for Us Ladies…

The researchers also experimented with humans after they had found what they needed with the mice and achieved a similar outcome. Participants who had consumed moderately low amounts of THC felt increased sexual stamina. Males in this group stated that they were much more attentive in terms of foreplay and technique than they otherwise would have been – this is great news for us ladies!

The Bad News

However, just as with the results of the mice, it was found that higher levels of THC consumption tended to negatively affect the sexual performance of participants. In fact, males of the study even had trouble in producing an erection – essentially, they were way too stoned to get the job done.

So, Should Weed Be Left In or Out of the Bedroom?

Cannabis is a substance that has the potential to do great things, although it should be used in moderation – especially in the bedroom. Experimenting with cannabis can be fun, and this fun is definitely heightened when sex is involved, but you should always start off with small doses and work your way up so as not to spoil the fun for yourself and your partner(s)!
