Mycorrhizas are associations between plant roots and helpful fungi, created when the two work together. It is a very beneficial relationship for both parties, protecting them from disease as well as increasing nutrient uptake. Let’s take a closer look at mycorrhiza, as well as how you could put it to good use with some of our useful cannabis growing tips

First of all, what are fungi?

It may surprise you to know that fungi are entirely separate from both plants and animals, meaning that they are their own life form. It may not seem it at first, but fungi are incredibly interesting, and, without them, the earth would not be the same. Fungi have important parts to play involving many different processes – for example, they are necessary for the decomposition of dead organisms.

OK, so where does cannabis come in?

Well, when this mycorrhiza relationship forms between your cannabis plant and a fungus it will allow your plant to receive all kinds of cool benefits, with one of these being a significant increase in yield.

When attached to your cannabis the fungi will get a steady stream of the sugars that it needs to survive, and in return your plant will be able to reap the benefits of the fungi’s impressive ability to absorb nutrients, such nitrogen or phosphorous, and water very efficiently.

How can I introduce fungi to my weed?

There are lots of different ways to cultivate this lovely relationship in your own garden. for example, one way to do it is by providing some food for them – they like carbs! – to make them feel welcomed. One of the best foods to give them is maple syrup, and I recommend you mix 10ml of this with a gallon of water before spraying it near your plant’s roots.

That method too complicated? Well, the good news is that you can always buy a mycorrhiza forming product online or at your local grow shop. There are lots of good ones out there, but just make sure you do your research to make sure your supplier is reputable before buying.
